To Be a Good Leader, You Need to Be a Good Follower, Vice President Says

By  Carmen Mendoza
February 24, 2020

“Good followers have to get along with people of different backgrounds,” says Frances Villagran-Glover, the new vice president for student services at Northern Virginia Community College. The college, with six campuses, is the largest public institution in Virginia and the second-largest community college in the country, with a very diverse population.

“I think it’s really important for anyone in a leadership position, for myself, as a Latina woman, to always look through a student lens and to always advocate for students of all backgrounds to ensure that they receive the support and access and resources they need to be successful,” she says.
