Last week I fielded a question from someone who was having difficulty syncing calendar events between her Google account and her iOS device. She was finding that events were syncing only one way, which of course was problematic.
I suggested some ways to fiddle with her settings to try to resolve the problem, but I also had a recommendation to make to her, and to anyone who uses multiple accounts and/or platforms: try Sunrise Calendar.
Why the suggestion? Sunrise can handle iCloud, Google, and Exchange (at least on some devices) accounts; it will also, if you like, pull in information from a wide variety of other applications, including (among many others) Facebook, Evernote, ToDoist, LinkedIn, and Twitter. It’s available for iOS, Android, and OS X, and works well as a Chrome app for other platforms.
For cross-platform users (I regularly use a Mac, an iPad, a Linux laptop, and an Android phone), it’s a great choice. The lack of Exchange support on Android might be a dealbreaker for some, though I expect it will be added in eventually. Microsoft just bought Accompli and rebranded it as Outlook, as Jason recently noted; last week, they confirmed their acquisition of Sunrise.
Sunrise has worked very well for me, which is why I suggested it to my colleague. It certainly isn’t the only possibility for managing multiple calendars across a variety of platforms. So, if you have suggestions to make about cross-platform calendar management, and software that’s helpful for doing that, let us know in the comments.
