Bentley U. Professor Resigns Amid Investigation of His Retracted Research

James E. Hunton, an accounting professor at Bentley University, in Massachusetts, will leave the institution this month in the midst of an internal investigation of a scholarly article he co-authored that was retracted from the American Accounting Association’s journal Accounting Review. A spokeswoman for the institution said Mr. Hunton was resigning for “family and health reasons.”

In a statement in response to a Globe inquiry, the school said, “Bentley University and its faculty take the research process extremely seriously, and we place the highest expectations for rigor, diligence and ethical methods on our faculty.”
