
Jeffrey Brainard
Jeffrey Brainard, joined the The Chronicle of Higher Education in 1999 and managed the data and statistics unit beginning in 2008. He was responsible for the collection and analysis of data and graphics for The Chronicle’s recurring and one-time news projects, including its annual survey of compensation for college chief executives. He also wrote and reported articles based on his data research.
Before that assignment, Brainard covered science and federal science policy. Brainard previously worked as a reporter for daily newspapers, including the St. Petersburg Times, in Florida; The Times Herald-Record, in Middletown, N.Y.; The Knickerbocker News and Times Union, in Albany, N.Y.; and the Daily Hampshire Gazette, in Northampton, Mass.
Brainard earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at Williams College and a master’s in science journalism at Boston University. He completed training seminars run by the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting, an affiliate of Investigative Reporters and Editors.
