Libby Sander was a senior reporter at The Chronicle, and wrote about student affairs, exploring the experiences of collegians from all walks of life. The Education Writers Association twice recognized her feature writing with first-prize awards, most recently for “Out of Uniform,” a 2012 series of articles about student veterans and the new GI Bill. She joined The Chronicle in 2007 to cover college sports, focusing on the people and finances of major NCAA programs.
Before arriving at The Chronicle, Sander was a full-time freelance reporter for the national desk of The New York Times, filing breaking news and feature stories from the newspaper’s Chicago bureau. She has written for regional newspapers and magazines in Illinois and Wisconsin, and her work has also appeared in Sports Illustrated.
Sander holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in history from Bryn Mawr College, where she was a two-time captain of the college’s Division III field-hockey team.
