Members of the California Faculty Association, which represents the faculties of the 23-campus California State University system, have overwhelmingly agreed to authorize the association’s board to call rolling two-day strikes if the system’s chancellor does not offer a contract settlement the group regards as fair. The association announced on Wednesday that 95 percent of its members had voted online or on their campus to give the board the power to call strikes. The association’s president, Lillian Taiz, declared, “We have said all along that we do not want to strike, but we will if that is what is necessary.” Contract talks have been under way for nearly two years.
