Better Student Engagement During Covid-19

Supported by D2L

Professors and instructors have had a rough spring pivoting to remote education and now face an uncertain fall as campuses prepare for multiple scenarios depending on how the virus plays out. But no matter whether the instruction is in-person or online, key teaching tenets still hold true. One of them that is crucial is student engagement.

In this episode of The Chronicle’s Faculty Resilience virtual forum series hosts Ian Wilhelm and Beckie Supiano are joined by Josh Eyler, director of faculty development and director of the Thinkforward Quality Enhancement Plan at the University of Mississippi to discuss practical techniques that can be used to keep students engaged and active in the classroom during a chaotic time. The conversation includes tips, big and small, that faculty can offer each other for how to draw out students and ways to support struggling ones. This interactive session aims to reinforce the idea that good teaching is good teaching, no matter the medium, no matter the time.
