In the past year, college leaders have faced unprecedented challenges over a global pandemic and a nationwide racial reckoning. In the latest installment of our monthly Leadership Interview Series, Ronald Crutcher, president of the University of Richmond, will join The Chronicle’s Katie Mangan to reflect on the college presidency as he prepares to step down from office this summer.
In his last year at Richmond, Crutcher faced controversy over removing the names of slaveholders from campus buildings, and found himself at odds with student activists. But he remains convinced of the importance of bringing people together to discuss deeply polarizing issues of the day.
Crutcher also is a classical cellist, and his career as a chamber musician has informed his work as a college president. Join us as we discuss viewpoint diversity on campus, why a campus is like a chamber ensemble, and Crutcher’s experiences as a leader in these especially trying times.
